Have you ever had a dream where you are falling? At first glance, it's terrifying unless you have the help of an umbrella to help appreciate the view above.
This little whimsical short was produced in my sophomore year in Kinetic Imaging (KI) at VCU. I personally love dreams where I am falling or flying. I don't know if it's the adrenaline or the sense of freedom I feel similar to when I'm running a creative fever. It might also be the desire to fly without fear. No plane, no hot-air balloon, just an umbrella to take me by the hand.
Concept Art of Up-Above
The image on the left was the very first piece of art to visualize the project. Originally, the character June was supposed to be fully covered but due to time management, I unfortunately had to stick to one color. Like her dress, yellow was fitting regarding her bright smile and big eyes. Not to mention the yellow outline corresponding to June's emotions, especially when she anxious. Notice throughout the animation that there's no sun due to being unnecessary because her brightness should be the only thing shining. After all, it is her dream.
